Ceramic Coatings for Space Applications (CeraNovis NV14 Space Coating)

In 2008, a major space company  was looking for a white, temperature-stable coating that would remain white even under space conditions and adhere to titanium and other metals.

As our team has white coatings on offer at the time, it was obvious to test these existing products and develop them further to meet the requirements of the aerospace industry. The experience our scientists brought to the table from the background at the Institute of New Materials made us an ideal development partner for the European Space Agency ESA, as well as other global players in the space industry.

The result of several years of development work led to the NV14 coating, and its definition as the mission standard on all heat-stressed surfaces of ESA's BepiColombo Mission. The coating is now being used by all leading space companies in Europe on other missions such as the  SolarOrbiter mission to the sun, and its use is also planned as part of the Envision mission to Venus.
